Understanding Psychotropic Medication – A Guide for Social Services and Activities Training
Years ago, Social Service and Activity staff were not expected to understand psychotropic medication, let alone have a substantive role within the Inter-Disciplinary Treatment Team. Contemporary Social Service and Activity professionals, however, are now required to be clinicians with a basic understanding of psychotropic
medications – their uses, their side effects and their contraindications. In this presentation, participants will be provided with an overview of the types, classifications and indications of psychotropic medications as well as potential side effects. This information will help you gain competence and confidence in your role as a member
of the IDT within the psychotropic medication discussion. Although the presentation is geared towards Social Services and Activity staff, the review will be beneficial and practical for all care providers. Length: 60 minutes 1 CEU. Approval codes will be available on the course certificate upon completion of the course.
