Making a List and Checking it Twice…Here are Your December Safety Observances

We’re in the thick of the holiday season now! My chestnuts aren’t roasting on an open fire quite yet, but Jack Frost is certainly nipping at my nose. It’s time to take a look at our December safety observances and provide resources to help you make the most of them.

We’re going to keep this list short, as I’m sure your own list is quite long to start with.

National Impaired Driving Prevention Month

Two of the most celebrated days of the year, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, also are among the most deadly. That’s why December has been recognized as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. For more than 20 years, drivers with alcohol concentrations at or above 0.08 have remained involved in about one-third of all traffic fatalities in the U.S. That’s about 10,000 lives lost every year.

Did you miss last month’s podcast episode? It was a good one!

In this episode of The Safety Meeting, KPA’s Amanda Rawls discusses how safety professionals can ensure a strong year-end finish. She stresses the importance of looking back — self-assessment, reviewing incident trends, and training completions — while also planning ahead to proactively consider new technology, 2024 budgets, and goals.
