Westminster, Colo. – September 20, 2022 – Last evening, one of KPA’s compliance consultants, Zach Pucillo, CSP, CHMM, a KPA Environmental, Health, and Safety District Supervisor, was honored by the National Safety Council (NSC) as a 2022 Rising Star of Safety. This award marks the first time a KPA compliance consultant has been recognized by the NSC.
For over a century the National Safety Council has served as the nation’s leading nonprofit safety advocacy organization, building on concepts of what it means to be safe at work and beyond. For 13 years, the Rising Stars of Safety Awards have been awarded to the next generation of safety professionals who demonstrate skills, leadership, and commitment to workplace safety. These leaders are under the age of 40 and have a proven track record of continuous improvement and dedication to workplace safety. Mr. Pucillo joins a class of 39 other individuals who represent 31 states and eight countries.
“Working with Zach for 14 years, I’ve gotten to see how tirelessly he works at ensuring the safety of his clients and that not only is his team current with the latest compliance information but that all of KPA is aware. His dedication never ceases to amaze me,” said Glorianna Corman, REM, CSP, CHMM, one of Mr. Pucillo’s colleagues. “Always a phone call away, he has no issue traveling to any of his clients to show them exactly how to create a safe workplace through practical solutions, training, and whatever tools they need.”
In the 15 years that Zach has worked at KPA, he has started initiatives, accomplished several professional milestones, and consulted with clients across the nation. In 2021, Zach introduced an internal safety initiative, a “Regulatory Review,” to help educate over 100 KPA Environmental, Health, and Safety compliance consultants. He led the team through short, accessible content modules including definitions, interpretations, case studies, and general guidance on topics including fire suppression, fall protection, waste handling, and more. On his own, Zach has completed over 3,100 EHS audits and inspections for his clients and written 52 Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures programs. In the last year, he has presented at 7 different public education webinars regarding safety in the workplace and written five articles for several different industry trade publications.
“Zach understands what our clients are trying to accomplish with their business and how a safe and healthy workplace will help them achieve their goals,” said Wayne Curtis, Vice President of Client Services. “He’s gone a step ahead by taking a leadership role internally, collaborating with teams across the organization to ensure that our staff and our products are up to date with industry best practices and the latest information. KPA can’t be successful without that kind of initiative and work.”
In addition to receiving the Rising Star Award this year, Mr. Pucillo was awarded the Hazardous Materials Professional of the Year by the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals. Outside of KPA and his client work, he volunteers as a youth sports coach and works with local food pantries including, “Second Helpings” of Indianapolis, Ind., and the Feed More Center of Richmond, Va.
