Oil and Gas
Paradigm Controls of Texas supplies power and motor control systems, adjustable speed drives, electric motors, and project management for North America’s oil & gas and power generation industries. By handling the intricate details of system implementation, they enable their clients to focus on core operations.
When confronted with an on-the-job incident involving a sub-contractor, Paradigm Controls’ Field Service Manager Jessie Lozano already knew the company greatly needed an updated solution for EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) functions. The need to produce detailed records of the incident underscored the gap in the company’s documentation.
“We were running off a local server, which you had to log into with a VPN. So, that wasn’t working for staff or contractors in the field,” Lozano said. “Our contractor management was literally in folders inside a drive. There was no rhyme or reason.”
His next solution was to try SharePoint, which placed the company’s forms and data in the cloud, though it introduced other complications.
“Now users had to figure it out: Is it on SharePoint or on the drive? Plus, with SharePoint, you still don’t have access if you don’t have a cellphone signal or Wi-Fi,” he explained.
When the client involved in the incident audited Paradigm, it became clear the challenge was not only in capturing data, but also in being able to retrieve it.
“So, I was looking for an everyday digital repository for the data,” Lozano said.
Contractor Management Software in KPA’s Flex EHS can drastically reduce risk and injury rates among contractors and temporary workers.
The software features a Hiring Client Portal, which allows companies to:
It also features a Contractor Portal, which allows contractors to:
And as for Paradigm Controls and Lozano, it’s mission accomplished.
“Everything flows through KPA now. We’ve got 100% document retention for everything we’re doing.”
“Say a customer wants to see all of our safety and JSA (Job Safety Analysis) documents for the time we were [on a job],” he continues. “I open it up and all the PDFs are there. Man, it’s a game-changer for us. We’re not working in several other portals now, it’s literally in one spot.”
“The goal,” he said, “is to reduce all the headaches and manual processes wholistically. So, adding Contractor Management to Flex EHS really made it gap-free.”
“We try to make things happen quickly at the ground level on the job. Now, with KPA’s system, we can do that,” Lozano shared.
He’s such a fan his goal is to get the rest of the Paradigm moved onto KPA. “As soon as you show it to people, it’s a game changer for everybody. It’s what we’re all looking for,” he added.
And he’s gotten wholly positive feedback from clients. “Being able to produce data and show dashboards has really hit home with some big companies,” Lozano said. “They didn’t realize Flex EHS has the level of capability on the contractor side that it does. They were blown away when they saw we could do with it.”
